Solar Shades and You!

It’s time to upgrade!  Not your computer but your window shades.  Many of us are still using old-style curtains, shades, or blinds.  Many of these traditional window shading systems only delay the heat from the sun from entering your home.  Finally a real solution is available that will be an upgrade in every way from old fashioned curtains, shades or blinds.

According to Consumer Reports “Americans spend more than $22 billion a year to cool their homes with air conditioning”.  Besides the immense financial cost, there is an environmental one too.  Solar shades attack both of these issues because they are made of a special fabric that allows light and air to filter through, while blocking 90% of the sun’s heat and UV Rays.  Solar shades will help keep your home cool, reduce the need for air conditioning, and help protect your wallet and the environment.  Solar shades are a win-win for everybody.

Solar shades come in a variety of styles and colors.  Pale and reflective colors are best at reflecting light and heat while dark colors absorb it.  They also vary in opacity, or the openness rating.  An openness rating of 1% means that 1% of the shade is transparent while 99% is solid.  A shade like this would be hard to see through.  An openness rating of 10% tells you that 10% of the shade is transparent.  A solar shade with over 10% openness rating would be easy to see through but not block out as much of the heat and UV Rays, and therefore not be as effective.  When you put together the right color options and openness rating, you can create the perfect, comfortable environment in your home or office that you desire.  Contact your local window shades company for more info and to see how solar shades can be applied to your home or business.

There are a wide variety of options that serve both form and function when it comes to shades.  For a good visual representation showing some of whats available, check out these window shades and blinds.
